Inlays and Onlays
Protect your teeth with porcelain inlays and onlays
With advancements in dental technologies over the years, porcelain inlays and onlays have become an alternative to traditional fillings in back teeth.
Inlays and onlays are an alternative to traditional fillings as they can increase the strength of a tooth. Inlays and onlays are made from a strong dental ceramic known as porcelain and are custom made to restore your tooth to its natural shape and size.
What is the difference between inlays and onlays?
The difference between an inlay and an onlay is the area of tooth that it covers, that is, if the porcelain goes over any of the tooth’s cusps it is considered an onlay but if the porcelain goes into the tooth it is subsequently called an inlay.

When are dental inlays and onlays recommended?
Inlays and onlays can be a great alternative for patients who have damage to their teeth but not to the extent where crowns may be required. This procedure may be recommended to treat the following dental issues:
- Decayed, cracked or broken teeth that cannot be repaired with a dental filling but do not necessarily require more extensive procedure such as a root canal or a dental crown.
