What to do if you lose one or more teeth?
If the tooth is dirty it is important for it’s owner to lick the root clean (or rinse with saline*) and then correctly place it back into the gum pocket that previously held the tooth. In the event that you experience single or multiple tooth loss, it is important to contact the dentist as soon as you are able. There is a limited window of time whereby dental professionals can attempt to save your lost tooth. It is important to handle your lost tooth by the crown and not by the tooth’s root. The crown is the actual tooth structure that is visible above the gum. By touching your tooth’s root, you can damage your tooth’s regeneration cells.
It is important to rinse the tooth and then place it back in the gum pocket that previously held the tooth. It is crucial that you do not allow the tooth to dry out in order to have a chance of successfully re-implanting the tooth. If you can’t put your tooth back in the socket, you can place the tooth between your gum and the inside of your cheek or you can transport it in a container filled with saline* or milk.
What to do if you chip your tooth?
In the event that you chip your tooth and you do not experience any discomfort, you have a number of options when repairing your damaged tooth. The size of the chip will often determine which course of action is best in order to repair your tooth. If your chipped tooth is causing pain, it is important to see the dentist as soon as you can.
What to do if you have cracked or fractured your tooth?
Depending on the severity of the crack or fracture, will determine your treatment options. You should have this damaged tooth seen to by a dentist as soon as possible as both cracks and fractures can worsen if not treated.
